Rescue Me ID: 17-02-10-00600Comet (male)

Catahoula Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Comet and I'm in search of my forever family. My foster mom and dad say my name must come from the long white streak on my forehead, and the fact that I like to run really fast like a comet. I'm a ten month old catahoula cattle dog mix with leopard like spots, and have an amber eye and a brown eye, and everyone tells me that I'm beautiful and unique looking. I'm UTD with my shots, neutered, very sweet and good with other doggies. I am high energy, as I'm still a baby and love to play all day everyday. I like toys, but I don't always like to share them. I am highly curious, and like to investigate new things and sometimes stuff ... (Read More)that I'm not supposed to, but I don't destroy things and am just nosy. I absolutely love my dog bed, and take lots of naps after all of that playing. I need a forever family who wants a high energy pup, and can help me learn basic obedience and good doggie manners, as I'm still learning my way in the world. My foster mom and dad are working with me on basic commands, and I have sit pretty well now, but need to work on other basic commands. I have a very loud and defensive bark, which can seem a little intimidating, but that's just how I talk. I like to grunt and growl under my breath at you, especially when you are not paying attention to me when I want you to, if I'm curious about something that I don't understand and if we are playing tug-of-war or another high energy game. I don't mind being kenneled, and don't seem to suffer from separation anxiety, especially when I'm with my friends. I do suffer from some anxiety around food, and I'm very food driven, but my foster mom is working on it with me. I really like to play with other dogs, and seem to do well with all types. I live with all girls right now, and they are teaching me my pecking order in the world, which I need. S If you are interested in meeting me, please touch base with my foster mom Corinne or Julie Buie with Operation Save a Shelter Dog to set up a time. I am hoping to be placed in the next few weeks, as my foster mom and dad can't foster me for very long. Thank you! #adoptdontshop #savealife #operationsaveashelterdog (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-02-10-00598Cane (male)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

2/7/17 - Update from Cane's rescue: Our very stunning Cane is in foster just waiting for me to post him out there to the world for a home of his very own. What we have learned about him is that he does hate a crate and does have separation anxiety, but if partnered with another loving dog he does not need to be crated and does nothing destructive in the home at all. We understand he is working on the senior years but just how old we are not sure. Perhaps 7, but missing teeth and that's probably from chewing on all those crates he's been put in before. He has lots of fun left in him but we do know that cats, squirrels and other such littles ... (Read More)drive him crazy. He is being fostered in the Richmond area of VA and if you would like to meet him this can be arranged. To meet Cane is to fall madly in love (3 Contact: Julia Buie with Operation Save A Shelter Dog (Email: OperationSaveAShelterDog@gmail.com) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1/18/17 - From Cane's rescue: Friends, this boy Cane belongs to Operation Save A Shelter Dog. His foster couldn't keep him because of her cats and the adopter backed out today. Here is what we do know about him so far. He hates a crate. He can't be put in a room alone for very long without him becoming destructive. Separation anxiety is the key here. He loves to be with a person. His foster or home needs to be with someone that is retired or works from home. Someone that won't leave him for long or will take him with them when they go out. He also seems to be very fixated on small dogs so we are guessing that wouldn't be a great idea either. Are you out there for him? He is being boarded in Woodbridge, VA right now. Amy Circosta and I are both going to call the facility to see what we can find out about him since he has been there. We do know that there is someone out there that does fit the bill for this boy, we just need to find you, and we can only do that by sharing him across the united states and back. So, please hit that share button for him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1/13/17 - Cane's results came in and the tumor was benign!! While that's awesome news, this super handsome dude is sitting in boarding and he desperately needs a foster or fur-ever home. No cats. No small dogs. That might be possible in time and with training but right now the focus is to get him out of boarding and into a home. My post alone has 150+ shares and the video showing off his amazing skills has 7,000 views. Surely there has got to be someone out there who can open up their home! Contact Julia Buie with Operation Save A Shelter Dog (Email: OperationSaveAShelterDog@gmail.com) if you can help, or know someone who can! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1/9/17 - Update on Cane: Friends, Cane made it to his new foster home yesterday but unfortunately he is not working out with her cats. Please no negative comments, his foster is very upset about this. Operation Save A Shelter dog is seeking a new foster (or even better a fur-ever home) for this amazing boy. Obviously a home without cats is required and would also say no small dogs. Cane is extremely smart and incredibly sweet. He loves people and wants to be right next to you. He is not a fan of being crated or confined for long periods of time. He has so much love to give. Cane is about 7 years old and is up-to-date on all vaccinations and is neutered. He also had a tumor removed and the rescue is waiting on the results. Please share to find Cane a new foster or adopter. He is currently in the Woodbridge, VA area but transport can typically be arranged. Contact is Julia Buie with Operation Save A Shelter Dog ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cane would like to thank everyone (and show off his skills S) for helping him get out of the shelter and onto a better life! Especially Albina Albiie Chanel and Nikki Robinson who work so hard daily to get all of the Rowan shelter dogs (and so many others) to better places, Wanda Deal Williams our pledge warrior (because without funds rescues can't keep helping) and Julia Buie for taking him under her rescue wing and getting him much needed medical attention. Cane is going to his longer term foster on Saturday in Northern VA. It's been my pleasure to play, walk, and snuggle with this sweet boy! Cane wants everyone to remember fostering saves lives!! It saved his! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-23-00452MIllie (female)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

One and a half years ago this beautiful little girl was found chained to a tree along with several other dogs. Millie was 'rescued' and brought to a boarding facility where she sat for that year and a half. The rescue could not place her and there she sat. The boarding facility generously cared for Millie for that year and a half. When contacted by the facility saying that something must be done, the rescues answer was 'take her to the shelter to be euthanized.' They felt they had done all they could for her. Operation Save a Shelter Dog has stepped up to take Millie into their loving care. We were told that Millie couldn't get along with ... (Read More)any dog, but we have recently found out that is not true. Even though I asked for the boarding facility not to put her next to a dog, that she would kennel fight, she was by another family member. I am so glad that accident happened. I was told she did not react at all to the girl next to her. Then the owner of the facility put a laid back boxer male next to her. She fussed at him for a few minutes, but all of a sudden they were running back and forth playing with each other through the fencing. There is new home for Millie. It appears that Millie does not hate all dogs. Slow intro's into a bully savvy home is all she needs. Millie can no longer sit in a boarding kennel. The trainer is recommending that starting out, Millie should go in a home with no children so she can be the focus and learn what it is like to live in a home. She has been alone too long. If you have ever thought of fostering this is your chance to make a huge difference for a dog that has been let down too many times. This could be the girl for you. She loves people and soaks up any attention offered. The rescue pays for everything. Millie is approximately 4 years old, 50 lbs., UTD on shots, and spayed. Come meet Millie... Spoiler Alert: You're going to fall in love!!! She is just a little thing with a huge heart (3 She does have high prey drive so no smalls at all. Millie has graduation for her training class and she knows 'Leave it'. she is freaking smart as a whip. Millie's Resume' as of 11/22/16, She knows her basic obedience and works very hard to remember it all. Sits when asked and tries to hold it for you. Is learning not to charge thru doors and will usually sit without being asked. She's know how to walk on a leash, but is usually so excited she forgets. She is crate trained, she hates being in it while I'm home but settled down as soon as I leave. She is almost 100% on her potty training. For a girl who's never been in a house before, she's doing great. She will ring the bell on the door when she remembers but mostly just stares at me. She will wake the whole house if she can't hold it until the alarm in the morning. She is learning the difference between her toys and chewing and mine blankets and shoes. We've only had one encounter with the shoes and a firm LEAVE IT quickly convinced her they were not for chewing. She appears to like other dogs, but we're not sure since my girls are all 5 to 10 years older and don't play well with others. Her recall is better than my older girls, that means she comes when I call her nearly every time. I also think she would play well with older children. Millie loves life and lives it to the fullest. She will make someone an amazing companion. She requires daily exercise and if trained properly could be a great jogging partner. She also loves snuggling up on the couch with a chewy and warm blanket. Millie is a work in progress and just needs someone to continue what we've started. All she really needs is love and consistency, she's wants to learn the rest. Please consider giving this amazing girl a chance, she does matter. Contact Julia Buie with Operation Save a Shelter Dog or me here if you would like to meet her. Please share! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-10-00403Bloomer (female)

Pit Bull    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed

Bloomers has been left hanging in eves much too long. She has been going through police drug detection, but she has also lived in a boarding facility for way, way to long. It makes me cry. I don't want this for her. I know that there is a person or family out there somewhere for her. She does have high prey drive. I have put her with a male dog and it appeared to go just fine until he picked her toy up. Uh Oh! do not mess with Bloomers toys. I had her on leash so was able to nip it in the bud ASAP. She has not been around female dogs at this time. She is one of the most loving and wonderful dogs that exists out there. I know that people lose ... (Read More)their only pet and one day want to bring another one into their home. Where are you for Bloomers? It's her time now. Way past her time now. You know how some shelters post that this dog has been in the shelter for 600 some odd days? Well this is Bloomers. Try 1,095. Could she have a shot with a police or Sheriffs dept somewhere? Well she might, but how would that go for her? I'm sick of waiting for something to happen and I just want her to have what all dogs deserve. A HOME!!! Is that possible? If you have a ball or toys, you will have her heart forever (3 She would do sooooooo well with a very active person, but she would also do very well with a person that likes to chill and toss her a ball every now and then. Please consider our fully vetted Bloomers for your empty nest. I ask more then ever that you share her for that (Less)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chico is a 2 year old Boxer mix who was recently pulled from a high kill shelter. He is currently living with other dogs in his foster home. He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative and on flea prevention. Chico is a medium-high energy dog. Chico would do best with children over the age of 8 as he is very excitable (he would be ok with younger children if the owner is experienced with dog behavior). Chico does well with other dogs. He has a high prey drive so NO cats/rabbits/chickens! He walks well on a leash but does not like to be left outside in a fenced yard alone; he will challenge a fence. Chico needs to be an ... (Read More)indoor dog; Chico has some house training but needs a refresher course. (Less)
